September 28, 2011 Meeting

We had an excellent first meeting! We had ten members meet to brain storm ideas for library activities and Channel Eight videos. The members will start with a video interview with our new assistant principal, Mrs. Rusher. The students created a list of questions for the interview. In addition, members created a list of ideas for future interviews including:
  • international students
  • new teachers
  • students who are working toward positive changes in our school
  • seniors: interview in the spring to talk about career and college plans
  • guidance dept: interview the two new members of the dept. and the counselors to see what is new and what is available in this dept.
  • student athletes
We have a great group of members, eager and anxious to support library programs and get involved with Channel Eight projects.
Morgan C. will be our Student Council Rep.

New School Year

Teen Council 2011-2012

Welcome!

Goals/Plans for the Year:

· Libraries rock and reading is fun: this is your chance to spend some time talking about what you are reading! Take a break from the “must reads” and pick something up that is fun and entertaining! You are amongst friends and we all want to hear about what you like to read!

· Shelfari: It is time to top 500!! Take a look at the virtual library shelf located on the SHS library web page. Turn in your book reviews to Mrs. Stout and she will add them to the site. Help make this student creation bigger and better. This is a primo web page, created by SHS students to help other students find a great book!

· Channel Eight: This is your opportunity to create some fabulous videos/photo story productions to be aired on Channel Eight. Our projects on due on the following dates: November 7, December 19, January 30, March 12, April 23, and June 4. Our interview videos last year were outstanding and I would like to see more of the same this year. Suggestion: interview the new teachers at SHS.

· Library Reading Celebrations: As members of the Teen Council you are student leaders and set an example by your involvement in library programs. That being said, you are encouraged to promote the library and participate in the reading programs. The first reading celebration is taking place during the week of October 16: Teen Read Week. Winning readers will be treated to a corn dog luncheon, magic show, and corn hole. We also need help with the school store and Ram CafĂ©.

· Community Service: Currently we are collecting cereal for the Keep the Change Food Pantry in Strasburg. They are feeding approximately 80 families per month and rely solely on donations. Our goal is to collect at least 100 boxes of cereal by November 1. Your support and help is needed with this project and all future community service projects.

The Teen Council can be an awesome organization if the members are willing to participate, offer suggestions, and be part of the library community.
