Hang in There!

On November 14, 2012 the Teen Council met in the library.  The members heard from Lauren, our SCA officer.  The members made "Hang in There" bookmarks and had a good time personalizing them!  They discussed the books they were reading and completed some reviews to be added to the Shelfari site.  Next month we will create t-shirt book bags: don't forget your shirt!

September Meeting

The Teen Council welcomed seventeen new members.  The group will bring t-shirts for a book bag project next month and cereal for the food pantry collection currently going on in the library.  A decision will also be made on the possibility of a community read and the group is expected to bring book suggestions to the club next month.  The club members created book thongs using yarn and beads.  This was a fun activity with a number of very interesting book marks being created!  Take a look at our video!

Welcome Back Readers!

Teen Council 2012-2013
Welcome!
Goals/Plans for the Year:
·         Libraries rock and reading is fun: this is your chance to spend some time talking about what you are reading! Take a break from the “must reads” and pick something up that is fun and entertaining!  You are amongst friends and we all want to hear about what you like to read!
·         Shelfari: It is time to top 500!!  Take a look at the virtual library shelf located on the SHS library web page.  Turn in your book reviews to Mrs. Stout and she will add them to the site.  Help make this student creation bigger and better.  This is a primo web page, created by SHS students to help other students find a great book!
·         Library Reading Celebrations:  As members of the Teen Council you are student leaders and set an example by your involvement in library programs.  That being said, you are encouraged to promote the library and participate in the reading programs.  The first reading celebration is taking place on October 31, 2012 as part of Teen Read Week.  We will be hosting a Zombie Hunters Luncheon.  We also need help with the school store and Ram CafĂ©.
·         Community Service: Currently we are collecting cereal for the Keep the Change Food Pantry in Strasburg as well as Mathew’s Food Pantry in Fort Valley.  Our goal is to collect at least 100 boxes of cereal by November 1.  Your support and help is needed with this project and all future community service projects.
·         Changes: Do you want to pick a group read?  What book would you like to read? Suggestions?
·         Book Trailers: Something to think about!  Would you like to create Animoto book trailers to share your favorite books with other students?
·         Cool ideas: www.teenreads.com
The Teen Council can be an awesome organization if the members are willing to participate, offer suggestions, and be part of the library community.

First Meeting: Wednesday, September 26 in the library at 1:00.

Stand UP

Many thanks to Bullying.org for allowing us to use their pledge. The Teen Council met on October 26 and worked on the Strasburg High School "Stand Up to Bullying" pledge. The video was a great success. The students showed conviction, compassion, and concern. We will definitely repeat the pledge each year: well done!
